A Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) is a mandatory refresher course for pilots who want to maintain their instructor certification. In this course, your knowledge as an instructor is refreshed and supplemented with the latest insights and changes within aviation. The FIRC focuses on both technical subjects and didactics, so that you can continue to teach effectively and safely according to current standards.
As a flight instructor, you are required to renew your licence every three years. You can do this by taking an FIRC. This shows that you are keeping your knowledge and skills up to date and that you meet the requirements of the aviation authorities to continue giving instruction.
At Breda Aviation, you can get a complete and practical FIRC. The course is taught by experienced instructors with up-to-date flying experience. Located at Breda International Airport, Breda Aviation offers excellent facilities for theory lessons, simulations and practical sessions.
To participate in the FIRC at Breda Aviation, you must hold a valid or recently expired instructor qualification (e.g. FI(A), IRI, CRI). Have you been instructing but your licence has expired? If so, you can often still qualify for renewal with the FIRC, provided you meet the required conditions. It is advisable to contact you in advance for a personal intake.
Yes, if your instructor licence has expired, taking an FIRC is usually mandatory to renew it. Depending on how long the licence has expired, additional requirements may apply, such as a reassessment or a practical test. By taking an FIRC in time, you will avoid extra steps and remain qualified.
The cost of an FIRC at Breda Aviation depends on the exact details, group size and any extra guidance. Because we offer tailor-made solutions, we are happy to draw up a quotation based on your situation. Please contact us for a no-obligation proposal or check the FIRC page on our website.
The FIRC at Breda Aviation is a compact but intensive course that usually takes two days to complete. During these days, all required components are covered, including interactive classroom sessions and group assignments. The course is structured so that upon completion, you are immediately ready to renew your licence.
During the FIRC itself, you do not instruct - the focus is on your own development. After successful completion of the course and approval by the aviation authority, you can have your instructor licence renewed. You will then be fully qualified to provide practical and theory instruction again.
At Breda Aviation, the FIRC is delivered in a classroom setting, so you actively participate in discussions, practical examples and group assignments. This interactive character ensures better knowledge transfer and more depth. In some cases, parts of the preparation can take place digitally, but the vast majority takes place on location.
During the FIRC, we cover topics including:
